Psoriasis Cure

When Will There Be A Psoriasis Cure?

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that affects about 3% of the world’s population. Currently no one knows what actually causes psoriasis but it is believed to have some type of genetic relationship. Psoriasis is considered a non-biased disease. It affects people of all ages, genders and race almost equally. Typically people see their first symptoms of psoriasis between the ages of 15 to 35 but it can occur at any time and at any age.

We must understand the cause to find a psoriasis cure

Most often psoriasis is triggered by some form of trauma to the body. For some individuals it may be as simple as a bad sunburn that triggers their psoriasis. For others it may be a severe sickness. Since the trigger is so different in everyone finding a psoriasis cure becomes much more difficult. A psoriasis cure becomes even more difficult to find when we know that the disease is genetic. There are often times when an individual can have the gene for psoriasis in their family yet it may never appear on their skin. This leads scientists to believe that there must be a combination of genetic and environmental factors that triggers the psoriasis to appear.

There are five types of psoriasis; plaque, inverse, guttate, pustular and erythrodermic. Plaque psoriasis is the most common form and is identified with symptoms such as redness, scaling, itching, lesions and flaking skin cells. It can occur anywhere on the body but is most commonly found on the elbows and knees. About half of the individuals that have body psoriasis will also have scalp psoriasis. Around ten to thirty percent of the individuals that have psoriasis will also develop psoriatic psoriasis which is a form of arthritis.

Severity Of Psoriasis

The symptoms of psoriasis can appear to be very scary. Many people will hide their skin condition often wearing long sleeve shirts and long pants during the summer because they are embarrassed. Because people don’t understand the disease some people will avoid shaking someone’s hand or getting close to an individual with psoriasis. Until we find a psoriasis cure it is important to understand that you cannot “catch” psoriasis from someone. It may be an ugly disease but it does not impose any health threat to another individual.

So is there a psoriasis cure? Unfortunately right now there is no medication for Psoriasis. However there is a lot of hope for finding a psoriasis cure. Millions of dollars are now being dedicated to finding a psoriasis cure by the federal government and private industry. Today it is being studied more than ever. The huge advancements in technology and bio research are helping scientists study genetics and our immune system like never before. In the meantime there are treatment options for individuals that suffer with mild to severe cases of psoriasis. Most individuals will find significant relief from the symptoms of psoriasis using over-the-counter psoriasis treatment products such as creams, shampoos and scalp oils. For more severe cases there are now prescriptions available. Finding the right treatment for an individual often takes a little time and involves several different products. The treatment will be different for everyone and often the products may have to change over time if the body becomes immune to the treatment. Because psoriasis affects such a broad range of individuals research will not stop until we find a cure for psoriasis.
